This Privacy Policy explains how Caruso Consulting Co Ltd, trading as Modern Light Company ("we", "us" or "our"), collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information when you visit modernlight.store or buy from us.

We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the provincial privacy laws that apply. Examples of those laws are Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, and the Personal Information Protection Acts of Alberta and British Columbia.

Information We Collect

We only collect the information we need to run our store and look after you. This may include:

• Information you give us: your name, delivery and billing address, email address and phone number when you place an order, and anything you write to us by email, through our contact form or in our chat assistant.
• Order information: what you ordered, when, and what you paid.
• Payment information: handled by our payment providers, Stripe and PayPal, on their own systems. We do not receive or store your full card number.
• Information collected automatically: such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view and the site that referred you. Analytics information is only collected if you accept analytics cookies.

Consent

We collect, use and share your personal information with your consent, or where the law allows or requires it. When you place an order, you consent to us using your information to complete and support that order.

You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contract limits. If you do, we may not be able to complete an order or provide some services, and we will tell you if that is the case.

How We Use Your Information

• To process and deliver your orders and provide customer support.
• To send order confirmations and delivery updates.
• To send marketing emails, but only if you have agreed to receive them.
• To improve our website, products and service.
• To prevent fraud and keep our store secure.

Marketing Emails

We only send marketing emails if you have given your consent, in line with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, we will stop sending you marketing emails. We will still send emails about orders you place.

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working and, with your consent, to understand how the site is used. Cookies fall into a few broad categories:

• Essential cookies: needed for core functions, like keeping items in your basket and remembering your cookie choice.
• Analytics cookies: Google Analytics, which helps us see how visitors use the site. It only loads if you accept analytics cookies.
• Advertising cookies: we do not currently use advertising cookies. If that changes, they will only be set if you accept them.

Service Providers We Use

We share personal information only as needed to run the store. The service providers we use are:

• Payments: Stripe and PayPal, which process your payment.
• Email delivery: a service that sends our order confirmations and replies to your messages.
• Order records: a secure cloud database where we keep records of orders.
• Hosting: the provider that hosts and serves this website.
• Analytics: Google Analytics, only if you accept cookies.
• Chat widget: a third-party chat assistant on our website. If you use it, what you type is processed by that provider.
• Delivery: the couriers who deliver your order, who receive your name, delivery address and contact details.

We require these providers to protect your information and use it only to provide their services to us. We do not sell your personal information. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

Information Stored Outside Canada

We and our service providers, including those listed above, may store, access or process your personal information outside Canada. When that happens, your information is subject to the laws of the country where it is held, and it may be accessed by the courts, law enforcement or national security authorities of that country.

Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, including our legal, accounting and record-keeping requirements. When it is no longer needed, we securely delete it or make it anonymous.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you and how we have used and shared it.
• Ask for a copy of that information.
• Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
• Withdraw your consent, including to marketing emails.
• Ask us to delete your information. This does not include information we must keep for legal, administrative or security reasons.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca. If you live in a province with its own private sector privacy law, such as Quebec, Alberta or British Columbia, you can also contact the privacy regulator in your province.

Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections at checkout. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and report it as the law requires.

Children's Privacy

Our store is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
